Three Stooges Syndrome and Purses

There was an episode of The Simpsons where Mr. Burns goes to the doctor and discovers that he has everything– juvenile diabetes, pancreatic cancer, hysterical preganancy– the works.  He even had some diseases that were newly discovered in his body.  The prognosis sounded bad, but then the doctor went on to explain that all the germs were perfectly balanced in Mr. Burn’s body.  To explain, the doctor used some toy germs and a toy doorway.

“Here’s what happens when all those germs try to get in your body,” the doctor said and tried to shove all the germs through the doorway at once.  There wasn’t enough room, so the germs got stuck:

I didn’t realize it, but my Bowman Handbag was capitalizing on that same phenomenon.  I currently have one of the small reversible Gwyn bags:

I typically have it filled beyond capacity– crammed with Dr. Grips, a checkbook, old receipts, coin purse, old MapQuest directions, contacts, various lip glosses, etc.   Everything was shoved in so tight that all the contents were stabilized and nothing fell out.  Last Friday, I disrupted that delicate balance by actually cleaning out the purse.  Without its ample padding, suddenly everything was free to shift around AND make its escape out of the handbag.

Luckily, with all the Christmas shopping I still have pending, I should have enough receipts in the coming weeks to stabilize my handbag once more.

Entry filed under: Bowman Handbags, The Simpsons.

I’ve seen Simpsons (and other shows) with that network logo in the bottom right corner — it’s much less annoying than the local logo.

Why is that titled The Three Stooges Syndrome?

Oh, that’s what the doctor told Mr. Burns– because all the germs were trying to get through the doorway at once.
