Bald Eagle Web Cam

A few weeks ago, I got to see a real live pair of bald eagles in the wild! They were circling over Merchant’s Millpond State Park. Alas, even with 12x optical zoom and strategic cropping, this is as close as I was able to get:

Well, now I can get up close and personal with Bald Eagles… and BABIES! Baby Bald Eagles!
Since 1997, Xcel Energy has been installing cameras to promote conservation efforts and give the public a chance to see birds nesting. Currently they have cameras for Falcons, Kestrels, Ospreys, Owls and, of course, Bald Eagles. The Bald Eagle nest is hopping at the moment. It’s home to three adoreable and clumsy hatchlings.

There’s a cam out on the Channel Islands of a bald eagle nest. Sadly, the chicks did not survive this year, but hopefully next year…

@geekhiker – Awww, that’s too bad. Hopefully these little guys have better luck.
This morning, I was curious about one of the chicks. Two of them were standing up and swaying back and forth like they were tipsy. Meanwhile the third was frozen in a full-fledged face plant on the nest floor… like he was plastered. So I wasn’t too sure how HE was doing, but later I checked the nest again and they were all back to their staggering around the nest.

Very cool! We have bald eagles in nearby Desoto Nature Reserve. We saw quite a few last fall but they were are just little white dots in the distance.
Omaha has a pair of falcons that roost every year on the Woodman building (second largest in Omaha). They’ve named then Hera and Zeus and have mounted a cam over their nesting box. That have a pretty big fan base.
