Falls Ridge

This evening, the dogs, Penn and I went for a quick trip to the Falls Ridge Preserve. It is located in Ellett Valley and, like Bottom Creek Gorge, it is maintained by the Nature Conservancy. Falls Ridge is a very easy hike, but super fulfilling because of the varied sights it has to offer. There is a lovely grass field surrounded by mountains, an 80 foot waterfall, beautiful creek crossings and to top it all off, there are a number of caves near the falls.

Penn discovered a cave that he found scary.

Falls Ridge in Three Seasons
Thanks to today’s visit, I now have three seasons to share from the top of the falls:

Penn and Falls – Three Years Apart
I also have shots of Penn at the bottom of the waterfall almost 3 years apart.

Two year old Penn at Falls – June 2004

Five year old Penn at Falls – May 2007

It is definitely a great area to visit while in the Blacksburg area. I highly recommend it to visitors and residents alike.

Hey did you find the geocache located there? I was going to go but Tracksall indicated it might be missing.

    Hey Brian,
I had found it a couple of years ago. In the fall, a friend and I tried to find it again and we couldn’t– but we were also trying to do it by memory without a GPS.
I would say geocache or no geocache, the journey is worthwhile.
