On Saturday at a wedding, I was making polite conversation the guests sitting next to me and it turns out they are bird watchers with an achievement to their name. In 1996, they were the first people to spot the “Stygian Owl” in the United States.

Trees commonly impress me with their resiliency and determination. Well, this one takes the cake. By growing a new trunk as the other died, this spruce tree in Sweden has kept itself going for 9550 years! (HT Ideonexus)
