Foamhenge

After our Devil’s Marbleyard Hike, Mike took us to another unique site– Foamhenge.  It is a full-scale replica of Stonehenge… only made out of styrofoam!  It is right off Route 11, just slightly north of Natural Bridge, Virginia.  A sign at the site compares the construction of the Stonehenge and Foamhenge.  Here is a quick summary:

Stonehenge Foamhenge
Completion Time 1500 Years 6 Weeks
“Stone” Weight 50 Tons 420 Pounds
Labor Estimated 600-1000 Men “4-5 Mexicans and One Crazy Man”

Here are some shots of our visit:

Between this and the makeout couple at the airport, I am definitely seeing alot of unusual sights this week!

    Very interesting

Completion Time 1500 Years 6 Weeks

1500y = 78000 weeks, so they did it 13,000 times faster. Though, I still find it so hard to believe that anything could be coordinated for 1500 years!

“Stone” Weight 50 Tons 420 Pounds
So these stones were 1/238th as heavy.

Labor Estimated 600-1000 Men “4-5 Mexicans and One Crazy Man”

600-1000? We’ll call that 800. So, 800 men worked 13,000 times longer than the original 6 (5 Mexicans, 1 Crazy)? So am I to take that to mean that 800*13000=10,400,000 — so it took over 10 million times as many many-hours to create the real stonehenge, vs foamhenge. And this is by mere virtue of stones being harder to deal with… 238 times heavier = 10,400,000 more man hours… That’s 43,697 extra man hours per each of the 238 times. Oh, math is getting fuzzy. Hope no one’s checking this.

I think you are in the clear. I stopped paying full attention to the calculations around the stone weight.

P.S. Like the new nickname? The other sounded to much like I wanted someone killed with a pulpit bible. You know how heavy they can be!?! Oh, congrats on 50k!!!!
