Internet Legacies: Don’t Fire Al Groh
September 21, 2006
The last two seasons, my husband has been maintaining a site called DontFireAlGroh.Com, making fun of the inepitude of U.V.A.’s football coach.
Well just like my cheerleader animated GIF from 1996, DontFireAlGroh.Com is popping up in unexpected places. Yesterday at work, a co-worker said his sister had a link on her MySpace site. He didn’t tell her about the site or how one of his best friends made it– it was independently circulating around the Virginia Tech Hokie club. Then this morning, Sean was perusing his usual sports news websites and he found his site mentioned on Ben Maller’s Sports Rumours and News (10th article under College Rumors and News).
Granted, it isn’t as exciting as turning on CNN one morning and seeing Sean’s Jackass Driver Registry featured (which happened to us in 1998), but the DontFireAlGroh coincidences are still pretty neat.
In a post last night, Stacy said “it sure can be a small world”. Apparently the Internet falls under that scope!

Set up a Google Alert. I did one for my name and … it’s interesting.
Anyway, this reminds me of the “What Would Jesus Smoke?” image that I created with fdsFlickrToys, building upon an image someone else created (with her permission… cool French chick). So… recently it showed up as a comment on my MySpace profile.
It wasn’t the original. It had been resized, and was hosted on photobucket, which I have never and probably will never use.
I had to explain to her like 3 times to get her to understand that the reason I deleted the comment was simply that I don’t want an inferior version of “my” “work” being around.
But anyway, yea, it’s weird to have something go out there, and then come back to you. Like sending a message in a bottle, but it comes back to you.
Then, just the other day, I was on a Pirates Of Darkwater website & I noticed that he had some scanned PoDW comic books on the site. But as individual JPG files.
Standard scene release for comics is to compress them into an archive, and rename the extension to cbr (comic book rar) or cbz (comic book zip), depending on which. And then, usually, a large pack of those will be a torrent.
But anyway, I emailed him, asking him to make some CBZ files so that they could be downloaded one-click-per-comic instead of one-click-per-page (though “DownThemAll” FireFox extension solves that problem, really).
And he replies back… “Oh, ClintJCL! I know you. I always see your review of Pirates Of DarkWater when I go to its IMDB page. I’ve been seeing your name for years.”
Whoa, that was weird. Sadly, my PODW review isn’t the featured review anymore. But there were 0 reviews when I wrote it . . .

I love http://www.dontfirealgroh.com. My favorite website. I’ve shared it with many hokies, and have tried to get some stuck up, in denial, uva fans to look at it.

Tell your classless husband to go FUCK HIMSELF.
Here is one WAHOO who would like to KICK HIS ASS.
Apparently, Hokies are really insecure- it’s not good enough to beat UVA 7 of 8 during Groh’s tenure and win ACC championships- you also have to belittle our head coach and ridicule our program. REAL CLASSY.
Groh does suck, but VT fans need to mind their own business. It’s not your concern.

@Colin – Eh, he’s not my husband anymore, but I do have to say I find the site funnier than ever. It’s creative, it’s clever and it is chock full of reference to sports trivia, Internet memes and even the occassional WWII reference.
I don’t think you should be taking it so seriously, but to each their own.
Thanks for posting.
